Poor Summer is 9 1/2 years old and she will always be our "first" baby. I got her as a present to myself after graduating nursing school. She was 6 weeks old and could fit in my hand!! Well, David and I have always talked about our "inexpensive" dog, but we love her and she has been an awesome friend and pet.
So of course, 2 weeks ago, she was just running around in the yard chasing a ball and came up extremely lame. Poor thing was hobbling around like a tripod and I knew she tore her ACL. That night of course it snowed 3 inches and she kept me up most the night. Poor thing could not figure out how to lay down without it hurting, so David took her the next day to the vet to be sure and sure enough it was a torn ACL. She was scheduled for surgery up in Cary in a week. Of course it snowed 5 inches the night of surgery and she had to stay the night and we picked her up the next day. The surgery was very successful, but now she has to be contained in a small room for 2 weeks, only going out to the bathroom and back inside, then another 6 weeks of only walking her on a leash and still no running until 8 weeks later! Trying to keep her calm and not active has been so hard! Thanks so much to my parents for keeping her and to their dog, Jarrett, for being a good sport and coming to live with us for these 2 weeks!
( warning some pics might make you a little squimish!)
Dad and David went to get her after the surgery! She was all excited to see them!
Poor girl with her leg wrapped from where her IV was.
Shaved her whole leg!
Where her titanium plate was placed
Happy to see my girl!
How we have to walk her with a harness and leash
Out walking in the snow!
It is going to be a long 6 six more weeks, but hopefully soon she will be back to her active self!! We love our summer girl!
